To all AYF New England Conferences:
The 2023 AYF/AYC New England Region season concluded last weekend with the final football championship games and the cheer championships event in New Hampshire. The events were exceptional, and I would like to thank this year's host, the New Hampshire Conference, and all of the volunteers who donated their time and experience to make the championships a success.
Qualifying for the AYF/AYC National Championships doesn't just happen in a single game or routine at the regional championships, although sometimes it may seem that it does. The championships represent a season and a year where athletes and coaches worked together to get stronger, better and faster; to perfect and hit every count, stunt and tumbling pass; to win and to earn the opportunity to participate in the national contests. I applaud each team, coach, athlete and family for the time and commitment they put into making it to the regional championships.
I would also like to take the opportunity to recognize and congratulate 14U Connecticut state champs, the Springfield Tigers (8-0) and Massachusetts state champs, the Mattapan Patriots (7-1). During the AYF National Championships, the 14U football division is a state (vs regional) championship division, so the decision was made this year to not play a regional contest in NH. Although these two teams did not appear at the regional championships, they are our 14U national qualifiers who each had outstanding seasons and will be competitive at nationals.
Congratulations to all teams that qualified and are moving on to Nationals for a shot at the title. We look forward to seeing you in Naples (football) and in Kissimmee (cheer).
Safe travels. See you there!
Best,
Tim Whitcomb
Chair
